Sue Brubaker

June 17, 1927 — May 2, 2022

Sue Brubaker, 94, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2022, at McCrite Plaza in Topeka, just one month shy of her 95th birthday.

Sue was born on June 17, 1927. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1945 and attended Washburn University. On June 15, 1947 she married Gene Brubaker, her high school sweetheart. They spent 64 years together before his passing in May 2011.

Sue was a charter member of Beta Zeta Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority and the Kansas Capital Quilters Guild. She retired from Refrigeration Equipment Company where she was a bookkeeper for 30 years. Sue was a past President of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 1 in Topeka. She was an accomplished quilter and avid crafter. She especially enjoyed time spent with her family and many friends. Sue and Gene loved to dance, traveling in their RV, and spending winters in Arizona. The past four and a half years she enjoyed making good friends and participating in all the activities at McCrite Plaza. "A sweet lady" is how she was most often described by those who knew her.

Sue is survived by her children, Kenneth (Sherrie) Brubaker and Dave (Paula) Brubaker; Grandchildren, Mike (Christy) Brubaker, Darin (Jamie) Brubaker, Kellie (Jason) Degenhardt, Jon (Tory) Brubaker, Chris (Andrew) Machado, and Mark Brubaker; Great Grandchildren, Jillian, Noah, and Riley Brubaker, Ruby and Owen Degenhardt.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gene; mother, Josephine Smith; and father, Bernard Smith.

The families of Ken and Dave Brubaker will gather on June 18th to celebrate the life of their mother. Please join the family for cake and memories from 2-4pm at the Parker Price Reception Center, located at 1940 NW Central Avenue, Topeka, KS 66608. (Just south of the funeral home)
