Stephen Bainum, 79, of Topeka passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021. He was born on the Fourth of July 1941 in Wichita, Kansas the son of Charles Evan Bainum and Nel Andrus Bainum. He graduated from Wichita North High School and then attended Springfield Baptist Bible College. Stephen worked for over 25 years for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad mostly in Newton before transferring to Topeka. He retired in 2004. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Chapel in Topeka. He enjoyed reading, studying the bible and teaching the word of God. He enjoyed music and singing.
Stephen was married to Carol Young on May 24, 1991 in Wichita. He is survived by his wife, Carol Bainum of the home in Topeka; children, Rachelle Mayer of Whitewater, Kansas, Colleen Bilyew of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, Sherri Green of Lubbock, Texas, Michael Bainum of Derby, Kansas, Mark Young of Derby, Kansas, Stuart Young of Baldwin City, Kansas; siblings, Phillip Bainum of Houston, Texas, Shirley Hare of El Cajon, California, Barbara Morrison of Chatham, Illinois Joseph Bainum of Encinitas, California and John Paul Bainum of Wichita, Kansas. He had numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two siblings, Donald Bainum and an infant sister, Sandra Bainum
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 22, 2021 at Rest Lawn Cemetery at Newton, Kansas. He will lie in state from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 21 at Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka.
