OBITUARY: Mrs. Sophie A. Kessinger
Sophie A. Kessinger was born in Irving, KS, May 3, 1909. She died Feb. 15, 2007, in Kansas City at the age of 97. She graduated from Irving High School at Irving, KS and St. Francis School of Nursing in Topeka. Sophie worked for SBA Hospital in Topeka and was head nurse on the maternity floor at St. Francis, retiring in 1972. She spent her retirement traveling and fishing at Perry Reservoir.
Surviving are 3 children: John Kessinger (Topeka), Nancy Derrington (Kansas City), and Linda Ciskey (Kansas City); 3 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Committal services will be at 1:30 PM, Mon., Feb. 19, 2007, at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW Sixth, Topeka. Sophie will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka from 1:00 PM, Sun. to 12:00 noon, Mon. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:30 PM Sun., at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Labor/Delivery Dept. at St. Francis Hosp., 1700 SW Seventh, Topeka, KS 66606 or the American Heart Association, POB 1653, Topeka, KS 66601-1653.
