Shirley M. Owen, 74, of Perry, formerly of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at her home.
She was born August 8, 1938, in Searcy Co. Arkansas, the daughter of Tony and Mary Bankston Nichols. Shirley graduated from St. Joe High School in Arkansas, where she lettered in basketball and her team went to the state tournament. She moved to Topeka in 1970. She was employed by Adams Business Forms for 25 years before retiring.
Shirley married Carroll Owen in June, 1986. He survives.
Other survivors include her children, Marcie (John) Ensley of Hoyt, Shaun Hoover of Perry, two grandchildren, Mandy (Kevin) Holbrook and Cassie (Rene) Serna and her two siblings, Goldie DePriest of Harrison, AR and M.L. Nichols of Olathe.
Shirley was preceded in death by her daughter, Kerry Dene Hoover and her five siblings, Troy Nichols, Helen Gallagher, LouAnn Snider, Bill Alexander and John Nichols.
As per Shirley's wishes, she will not lie in state. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave. Graveside committal services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday in Western Grove Cemetery, Western Grove, AR.
