Shirley Jean Duncan, 86, of Topeka, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015.
She was born November 21, 1929 in Hiawatha, Kansas, the daughter of Lindel Donald and Phylistis Iota (Brightwell) Knox. She was a graduate of Hiawatha High School.
Shirley was employed by Macy's (Golden Wheat Room) and Dunkin Donuts in Topeka.
She was a member of Ladies of the Moose Lodge No 555.
Shirley married Wesley Duncan, Jr. on March 15, 1947 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on February 2, 1987. Survivors include her companion, Stanley Witt, Topeka; three daughters, Marilyn Kay Griffith, Leslie Jean (Troy) Gray, all of Topeka and Dee Ann Oakes, Scranton; two sons, David Joseph (Debbie) Duncan and Richard Glen Duncan, all of Topeka; 10 grandchildren, Troy, Letha, Teresa, Jeff, Jenny, Carolyn, Tisha, Cory, Jeremy and Casie; 16 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Donna Witt, Spring Hill, TN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, William Knox; and a sister, Sharon Sayler.
A funeral ceremony will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave. Interment will follow at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Shirley will lie in state after 3 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m.
