Shirley Maxwell Godlove, 86, of Topeka, Ks. passed away peacefully Saturday Sept. 16, 2023.
She was born June 13, 1937 in Steele, Missouri. She attended school in Caruthersville, Missouri.
Throughout her working career, she worked with the public in customer service roles.
Married December 9, 1999 to Donald (Pete) Godlove in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. They resided in Topeka Kansas and were married until Pete's passing in 2022.
Shirley loved a good cup of coffee and enjoyed cooking meals for family get togethers. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, watching birds and appreciated pretty flowers.
Shirley enjoyed taking drives with Pete on back roads to find restaurants for dinner while enjoying the scenery along the way. She enjoyed going dancing, going camping at area lakes and fishing as long as she did not have to bait the hook.
She also enjoyed going on semi-truck rides with Pete. Shirley and Pete were members of the Moose lodge and the Wagoneers Camping Group.
Shirley is survived by one son Rick (Candy) Thompson, one daughter Janet (Gene) Smith, one stepdaughter, Michelle Black and step-son Martin Godlove. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ola Maxwell and father, Carl Maxwell, 3 brothers and 4 sisters and a step grandson. She is survived by one brother Bobby Maxwell (Brenda). She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Parker Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, Kansas. A graveside inurnment will take place at 1:00pm at Lynn Creek Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Shirley's service will be livestreamed at the scheduled service time.
