Shirley K. Bennett

Shirley K. Bennett, age 76, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2020 at her home in Topeka.  Shirley was born August 29, 1943 in Topeka the daughter of John and Vera (Estes) Gilbert.  She worked at Duffen’s Optical, Allis Chalmers and retired from Hill’s Pet Nutrition.  She married Robert Pfeffer, they later divorced.  She married Robert H. Bennett.  He preceded her in death November 7, 2014.  Shirley enjoyed the outdoors, especially planting flowers.  She also enjoyed her trips to the casinos, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by a brother, John Gilbert.  She is survived by two sons, Robert (Shelly) Pfeffer and Ryan Bennett of Topeka; two daughters, Sandy Whitcomb of Topeka and Shelly (Greg) Cunningham of Mayetta; two brothers, Jim Gilbert and Jerry Gilbert, both of Topeka; a sister, Shara Gilbert of Topeka, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Thursday, June 11, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Prairie Home Cemetery.  She will lie in state Wednesday from noon – 7:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home.  We encourage everyone to wear a face mask while attending services.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.  davidsonfuneral.com.
