Mrs. Shirley Ann McCarter, 68, Topeka, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at her home in Topeka. She was born May 27, 1935, in Topeka, the daughter of James Edward and Lena Haynes Creech. She attended Topeka High School. She was a Topeka resident all her life. She was a member of the Topeka Jawhawk Club. She married Arthur William McCarter on May 3, 1952, in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Linda Jane Baxley, Springfield, Ore., Karen Ann McCarter and Carolyn Sue McCart, both of Topeka; two sons, William Terry McCarter and Arthur Brett McCarter, both of Topeka; a sister, Ruby M. Haldeman, Topeka; a brother, Edward Creech, Topeka; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Parker-Price Mortuary. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. McCarter will lie in state after 3 p.m. today at the mortuary, where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice care of Topeka, 2252 S.W. 10th Ave., Topeka, 66607.
