Shirley Ann Magers Markham
Shirley Ann Magers Markham, 74 Topeka, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at Midland Hospice House surrounded by her family. She was born Aug. 17, 1930, in Mayetta, the daughter of Thomas and Edna Robinson Magers. Mrs. Markham was graduated from Washburn University on Jan. 31, 1970, with a bachelor's of business administration, and she graduated from The University of Kansas on May 23, 1977, with a master's of public administration. She worked for the state of Kansas for more than 17 years, retiring as the director of the WIC Program. After retirement, she moved to Nickerson, where she lived for five years before returning to Topeka in 1995. She was a member of Gamma Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, YWCA, YMCA and she was a CASA volunteer. She married Francis R. Markham on March 23, 1946, in Lawrence. He survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Nancy A. Kampsen-Urton and Sue, and her husband, Dan Dillon, both o f Topeka; a brother, Richard, Topeka; three grandchildren, Michelle, and her husband, Robert Dowding, Meriden, Tim, and his wife, Julie Kampsen, Silver Lake, and Kimberly, and her husband, Joe Portwood, Scranton; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters. Committal services will be private. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka. Memorial contributions amy be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O.
