Sheila Ann Bowers, 63, of Topeka, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014 at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, KS, after a lengthy illness.
She was born July 23, 1950, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Hubert B. and Constance L. (Smith) Brooks. She was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church in 1959. She was a 1968 graduate of Highland Park High School. She attended Lincoln University, Jefferson City, MO.
Sheila owned and operated the Little Peoples Day-Care for many years, later retiring.
Mrs. Bowers was a member of the Asbury Mt. Olive United Methodist, of Topeka.
Sheila married Roy Bedford Bowers on December 26, 2000 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on September 6, 2012. Survivors include her children, Cleo F. Clemons and Evalt C. (Marsha) Catling, Sr.; grandchildren, Evalt C. Catling, Jr. and Kristina S. Catling, Michael Gonzales, Ronald Wakes, Jr., Ashelee Gonzales, a great-granddaughter, Serenity Gonzales, all of Topeka; step-children, Michael A. Bowers, Dion A. Bowers, Zechariah G. Bowers, Shanese Bowers, Isaiah Bowers; many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters, Ragena (Sammie) Greer of Greer, SC, Cynthia J. (Silvester) McGhee of Grandview, MO and Merri (Michael) Harris of Gladstone, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends will also miss her.
Sheila, Roy and her children enjoyed camping, fishing and the outdoors.
A funeral ceremony will be 2 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. Sheila will lie in state after 3 p.m., Friday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. A graveside service will be 2 p.m., Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Penwell-Gable Cemetery, Topeka.
