SCOTT WINFIELD KELSEY

Scott Winfield Kelsey, 92, of Edmond, Oklahoma, formerly of Rossville, Kansas, passed away October 12, 2012 with his family at his side.

Scott was born in Topeka, Kansas on August 29, 1920. He was the son of Scott and Iva Carothers Kelsey. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1938 and from Kansas State University in 1942 with a degree in agriculture. He was a farmer and farmed with his dad and two brothers in the Oakland, Silver Lake and Rossville communities. He married Faye Townsend on February 19, 1943. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in February 2013.

He was active in many organizations in the Rossville community and was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was also an integral part of getting the new church built in 1992. He was a member of Topeka Lodge No. 17, AF & AM, Topeka Scottish Rite bodies, Arab Shrine, Topeka Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and past president of the Kansas Society of Sons of the American Revolution. After his retirement, he volunteered for the V.I.T.A. program of the Internal Revenue Service for 17 years.

In 2007, at the age of 87, he and Faye moved to a retirement center in Edmond, Oklahoma. They made many new friends and continued to be involved in many activities. He was a faithful member of Crossings Community Church in Oklahoma City, where everyone knew he would be sitting in the 5th pew by the left aisle at the 9:30 service every Sunday morning!

Scott was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Dick and Sam. He is survived by his wife, Faye, of 69 years; daughter, Linda Kelsey Wise, Edmond, OK; son, Douglas Kelsey (Darlynn), Honolulu, Hawaii; grandchildren, Shandy Condie, Gilbert, AZ; Jereme Wise, Leander, Texas, Heidi Reeder, Edmond, OK; Leisha Johns, Queen's Creek, AZ; and Ja'Ney Mesquitta, Boston, Massachusetts and 7 great-grandchildren, Logan Johns, Jackson Condie, Jacob Condie, Keelie Wise, Ella Jane Reeder, Grady Reeder and Georgia Mesquitta.

A memorial service will be held at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka, Kansas at 1:00 pm, Friday, October 19, 2012, followed by Masonic Services conducted by Topeka Lodge # 17, AF & AM. The family would like to invite all friends and family to a light lunch at Penwell-Gabel Family Center immediately following the ceremony.
