Ruth Stebbins

January 3, 1929 — April 12, 2012

Ruth D. Stebbins, 83, Topeka, passed away on April 12, 2012. She was born Jan. 3, 1929, the daughter of Arthur G. and Pearl Gillum Brokmann at Meriden. She graduated from Meriden High School in 1948 and was a member of Seaman Congregational Church.

Ruth was married to Lyle F. Stebbins on April 24, 1949. They shared 63 years together. She is survived by her husband, Lyle, of their home; four children: Denise Grimmett of Grantville, Dianne Fender (Mitch) of Topeka, Danny Stebbins of Meriden, and Denzil Stebbins of Topeka; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and a brother: Howard Brokmann of Topeka.

Ruth was a homemaker and an avid quilter. She enjoyed selling tomatoes and vegetables that she and Lyle raised each year in their garden. She enjoyed canning and traveling, but most of all she enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wed., April 18, 2012, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, on the Ferguson Road north of Perry. Ruth will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Tues., at the funeral chapel where the famil will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
