Ruth E. Hess

Ruth Edith Hess, 90, of Topeka, died Mon., Sept. 20, 2010, at Rose Estates, Overland Park. She was born Dec. 15, 1919, at Smithton, MO, the daughter of William E. and M. Emma (Emerson) Shoemaker. The first love of her life was softball. She was retired from Josten's.

Ruth was married to Frank W. Hess, Jr., on Dec. 27, 1938, in Lawrence. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2000. She was also preceded in death by 2 sons: Kerry Hess on June 7, 1967, and Danny Hess on April 29, 1995. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law: Larry D. and Judy Hess of Overland Park; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchilden; and 2 sisters: Norma Jean Jacques and Margaret Kaberline both of Topeka.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Fri., Sept. 24, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. Interment in Mount Hope Cemetery. Ruth will lie in state after 4:00 PM, Thurs., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM Fri.
