Ruth O. (Miller) Dodge, 98, Topeka, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019.
She was born August 31, 1920, in Montgomery County, Iowa, the daughter of Fredrick and Ida (Peterson) Miller. She graduated from LeRoy High School and earned a teaching certificate from Emporia State College.
Ruth taught school for three years in a one room school in Coffey County. In midlife, she became a pharmacy assistant at Elkins Pharmacy, Blaylocks and Revco.
She was a member of Northland Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, Indian Creek Grange, where she was a 7th degree member and Pleasant Hill E.H.U. She volunteered at Topeka Rescue Mission, Great Overland Station and Stormont-Vail Hospital.
On June 3, 1941, she married Albert A. Dodge, Jr. in LeRoy, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 13, 1980. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jan Marshall, sister, Goldie Whitehead and son-in-law, Buck Hartner.
Survivors include two children, Joyce Hartner of Topeka and Albert "Andy" Dodge (Tammy) of Meriden; son-in-law, Dale Marshall of Topeka; 6 grandchildren, Heather Hartner (Barb Baldwin) of Tulsa, OK; Melissa Shultz (Tim) of Topeka; David Hartner (Yvonne) of Topeka; Anissa Selbach (Joey) of Topeka; Heidi Tanner (Tony) of Meriden and Christian Dodge of Wamego and 12 great-grandchildren.
Ruth was voracious reader, loved poetry and collected books. She enjoyed traveling and made a scrap book with each travel. She also enjoyed kitties, church activities, yard work and crossword puzzles.
Funeral services will be 10 am on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Northland Christian Church. Interment will follow at Half Day Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 pm to 7:30 pm Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Parker-Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka.
