R. P. "Rick" Scheibe
R. P. "Rick" Scheibe, 68, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at his home. He was born February 8, 1948, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Wilbert Thomas and Fern May Louise (Johnson) Scheibe.
He graduated from Hayden High School in 1966, and attended Washburn University and Northwestern University. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Vietnam. He received two Purple Hearts, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter (M-60), Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle M-16), and Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar (Rifle M-14).
Rick had owned and operated Topeka Salvage Pool. He worked for the State of Kansas as a Driver's License Examiner and retired in 2000 as the Assistant Director of Motor Vehicles. He was a member of Topeka North Post # 400 of the American Legion and Philip Billard Post # 1650, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Rick had also coached girls' softball teams. He was an avid golfer and liked to play pitch with his friends. He was "one handy guy."
He married Kay Brown on April 29, 1967, in Topeka.
Surviving are his wife: Kay of the home; daughter: Tammy Scheibe of Topeka; son: Scott Scheibe (Jenny) of Topeka; sisters-in-law: Pat Scheibe of Basehor, Shirley Brown of Topeka, Judy Brown (Lanny) of Topeka; grandchildren: Matt Rice, Justin Rice, Heather Rice, Caden Lutz, Lexi Sharples, and Justus Sharples all of Topeka; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Dave and Randy Scheibe.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM, Monday, October 17, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Topeka North Post # 400 of the American Legion will do military honors at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW Sixth Avenue, Topeka.
