OBITUARY: Roy W. "Bill" Beem, Jr.
Roy W. "Bill" Beem, Jr., 83, Topeka, died Mon., Sept. 4, 2006, at St. Francis Hosp. He was born Jan. 12, 1923, at Meriden, KS to Roy W. Beem, Sr. and Marguerite (Carden) Beem. He graduated from Meriden High School and Kansas State College with a degree in Engineering in 1949.
He taught in the consolidated High Schools of Nebraska and Iowa for 5 years. He worked 30 years in the Topeka area as a carpenter with Local 1445. He was a Navy veteran of WW II.
He was a member of First Christian Church; Carpenters Local 1445; and Capitol Post # 1 of the American Legion.
Bill married Myrtle Stewart June 11, 1947, in Clarinda, IA. She survives.
Other survivors include 3 daughters: Fern Truschke of Independence, MO, Freda Blizzard of Houston,TX, and Faye Genova of Fox River Grove, IL; a sister: Betty Cline of Shawnee Mission, KS; and 5 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with funeral services at 2:00 p.m., Fri., Sept. 8, 2006, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence. Burial at Meriden Cemetery. Bill will lie in state after 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
