OBITUARY: Roy Ellwood Burt
Roy Ellwood Burt, 97, Meriden, KS, died Monday, March 5, 2007, at Rolling Hills Health Center, Topeka. He was born May 6, 1909, at Armstrong, IA, the son of George Vernon and Nora Ella (Christopher) Burt. He moved to Grand Rapids, MN as a child and lived there until moving to Meriden, KS in 1987.
Roy was a retired farmer. He was the first married man in his home town to volunteer for service after Pearl Harbor. While in the Army he received 4 battle stars, 2 Philappino stars, and a combat infantry badge. He was a member of Ponti Peterson Post # 1720, V.F.W. and the Meriden Senior Citizens.
He was married to Florence Mary Herr on Jan. 11, 1936, at Grand Rapids, MN. She survives.
Also surviving are a brother: John Burt of Grand Rapids, MN; and a sister: Ethel Skau of Esko, MN.
