Roy B. "Beatty" Bowers, 65, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at his home. He was born August 5, 1947 in Bolivar, TN, the son of Guy and Maossie Brown Bowers.
Beatty was a truck driver for Southern Cal Transport Company for many years. He was a member of Asbury Mount Olive U.M.C.
Beatty married Sheila Brooks on December 26, 2000 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Michael Avery, Dion Avery, Zachariah Guy Bowers, Shanese Bowers, Isaiah Bowers, Cleo Clemons, Evalt Christopher Catling, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and his siblings, Daisey Neely, Bernice Bowers, George Brown, Jimmy Brown, Willie Bowers and Leotis Bowers. He was preceded in death by his father, Guy Bowers; his mother, Mae Ossie Bowers; brothers: Ellis Bowers, Freddie Bowers and Edward "Shangle" Bowers; and two sisters: Virginia Smith and Geneva Parham.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave. Entombment will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Beatty will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2012 at the funeral home.
