Roxie M. Nadeau Banta, 95, of Silver Lake, passed away Monday, February 14, 2011.
She was born October 8, 1915 in Westmoreland, KS, the daughter of George and Ethel (Lister) Mitchell.
She was employed as a Food Service Manager for Rossville and later Silver Lake School Districts.
She was a former member of Rossville United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a current member of Silver Lake United Methodist. She had volunteered for the Kansas Museum of History and was very active in the Silver Lake Senior Citizen Center.
Roxie married Paul Edward Nadeau in 1935 in Lyndon, KS. He passed away in 1958. She married Darwin Banta in 1965 in Rossville. He passed away in 1981. Survivors include 7 children, Jeanette (Gerald) Lister, Edmond, OK, Jean (Richard) Holzmeister, Lawrence, KS, Sally Carnevale, San Mateo, CA, Susan Nadeau, Shawnee, KS, Michael (Claudia) Nadeau, Silver Lake, KS, David (Gay) Nadeau and Dennis Nadeau, Rossville, KS; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a sister, Ruby Adams, Portland, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 4 sisters, and 2 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Silver Lake United Methodist Church, 204 Madore St., Silver Lake, KS 66539. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service time. Interment will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Grove, KS. Mrs. Banta will lie in state from 3-8 p.m., Friday at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608.
