Ronald Lee Smith, 64, Topeka, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, in Topeka.
Mr. Smith was a freight clerk for the Santa Fe-Burlington Northern Railroad for 40 years before retiring in July 1999. He served in the Air Force from 1955 to 1959 and was awarded the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and Good Conduct medal.

He was born July 16, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Henry G. and Hattie Lursen Smith. He moved to Topeka in 1957.

He married Carole A. Childers on Jan. 11, 1997, in Orlando, Fla. She survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Stephen L. Smith, Orlando, Fla., Scott A. Smith, Topeka, and Rod M. Smith, Kansas City, Kan.; a brother, Darrell Smith, Kesley, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Linda D. Childers, Fort Worth, Texas; two stepsons, Phil L. Childers and Jim V. Childers, both of Topeka; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Parker-Price Mortuary Chapel. Inurnment will be private.
