Ronald Dale Willard, 70, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at home.
He was born January 21, 1943 in Topeka, the son of Ivan and Rena (May) Willard. He was a 1961 graduate of Seaman High School and attended Ft. Scott Community College.
Mr. Willard was retired from the Shawnee County Youth Center, later working part-time for Diamond Industries, Topeka.
He was a member of Mater Dei Parish, Assumption Church and Knights of Columbus and former member of Fraternal Order of the Eagles and Moose Lodge in Topeka.
Ron married Barbara L. Artzer on September 11, 1964 in Topeka. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Linda K. (Don Dhans) Gravenstein, Lawrence, KS; a son, Dennis L. Willard, Topeka; granddaughter, Sara (Cody) Cummings and their children, Chason and Cannon; a brother, Donald (Debbie) Willard, Topeka; nieces and nephews; close family friend, Peggy Owings, Holton and his beloved dog, Sophie. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Connie Wennihan-Dagosta.
He was an avid KU Jayhawks basketball and NASCAR Racing fan.
Ronald will lie in state after 3 p.m., Friday at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. A graveside ceremony will be 11 a.m., Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Prairie Home Cemetery, 35th and Menoken Rd, Topeka. The family suggests contributions to the Shriner's Children's Hospital Travel Fund, c/o Abdallah Shrine Temple 5300 Metcalf Ave, Shawnee Mission, KS 66202 on behalf of their assistance for Ron's great-grandson, Chason.
