Roger Dean Shafstall

January 13, 1953 — April 9, 2024

Roger Dean Shafstall, 71, of Topeka passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024. He was born January 13, 1953 in Lawrence, KS, the son of Glenn Allen Shafstall and Grace Marie "Ford" Shafstall.

Roger was a 1972 graduate of Perry High School. He worked in Ellsworth, KS building wiring harnesses for Ford Motor Co before attending Emil Tories College for the Visually Impaired in Vancouver, WA graduating with high honors as a piano technician in 1977. He was employed as a piano tuner in Lawrence, KS, Pomona, CA, New Haven, CT and at Yale University. He returned to Topeka and was a self- employed piano tuner for 36 years.

Roger's hobbies included Amateur Ham Radio operator and record collecting.

He lived a life of music beginning when he was 5 singing solo "It Is No Secret What God Can Do" at Wellman Methodist Church north of Lawrence. He continued his love of music by being a self taught pianist, guitar and banjo picker, dobro player and also played the pedal steel.

He loved to entertain and had his own band "Real Country Sounds". He enjoyed picking at the Prairie Lake Festival in Holton and Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in Winfield. In later years he performed in the Elmont Opry and at retirement homes and senior centers.

Roger always lived and followed the way of our savior and believed his music was "a joyful noise unto the Lord". His message to you…"May God bless forever my many friends I have met through my life's journey"

Roger is survived by mother Grace Shafstall, Topeka, sister Alenia Cloud, Topeka, nephew Dustin Cottrell and his children, Shelby, Jesse and Hunter, Perry, KS.

Cremation is planned and private services will he held at a later date.
