Roger J. Herron
Roger J. Herron, 90, Topeka, died Thursday, December 21, 2017. He was born September 28, 1927, in Keats, Kansas. He was the fourth son born to Clarence D. and Martha E. Herron. His family lived in several small towns in northeast Kansas and finally settled in Centralia, Kansas, where he graduated from high school in 1945. After graduating he enlisted in the Navy and served from 1945 to 1948. He worked for the Kansas Highway Department until he joined the Topeka Fire Department in 1955 where he served 32 years and retired in 1987, as District Chief. He was a member of IAFF Local 83 and Hiawatha Lodge # 35, AF & AM. On November 14, 1962, he married Doris Myres, to this union she brought two daughters from a previous marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers and one daughter, Deborah Woods. Survivors include his wife, Doris; a daughter Dawn Herron; a sister, Donna Davidson; cousins; nieces; and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Roger will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Tuesday, at the funeral chapel.
