Roena Nadine Collins
Roena Nadine Collins, 86, of Topeka died Friday, December 23, 2016, at Medicalodge Jackson County. She was born May 12, 1930, in Topeka the daughter of Ralph Washington and Daisy Anna (Tubbs) Oldham. She was reared by her father and step-mother, Anna Marie (Minch).
Roena graduated from Topeka High School in 1948. She was a homemaker and then worked for the Kansas Department of Revenue from 1982 to 1992. She was an active member of Shawnee Heights Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and served as President of the Women's Missionary Society.
She was married to Duane D. Hunter on May 15, 1950 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on September 3, 1964. She was married to Edward Nelson Collins on January 9, 1965, in Collins, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 18, 1994. She was preceded in death by her father, step-mother, and twin sister, Roberta Maxine "Bert" Jones.
Surviving are her son: Duane Daniel "Dan" Hunter, Jr. (Debi) of Topeka; her daughter: Claudia Kay Garner (Troy) of Holton; brother: Dale Oldham (Marilyn) of Kansas City, MO; sister: Betty I. Goodnow (Clyde) of Missouri; five grandchildren: Trudi Richardson (Shawn) of Holton, Stephanie Auguste (Ewan) of Topeka, Jeana Shumway of Horton, Jason Garner (Anna) of Topeka, and Stephanie Schuetz of Holton; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 30, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. Interment in Rochester Cemetery, 1200 NW Menninger Road, Topeka.
Roena will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Thursday, at the funeral chapel.
