Rodney Butler, 78, of Silver Lake, KS, passed away, August 13, 2020.
Rodney was born in Green, Kansas on March 19, 1942, raised by Ben and Lula Shaner.
Rodney graduated from Riley County High School in 1960. On June 20, 1962 he married Judith Ann Riniker in Riley, Kansas.
He was an avid car lover. He owned Silver Lake Auto and also worked for Kansas Bumper which today is known as LKQ as a salesman for aftermarket body parts. Rodney also worked for General Tire from 1966-1968 then went and worked for Good Year Tire and Rubber from 1968-1976. He volunteered on the Silver Lake Fire Department for 16 years where he served as Chief for 2 years. He was also the Mayor of Silver Lake and served on City Council.
He enjoyed racing cars and building them, riding motorcycles, and attending tractor shows with his friends. He would visit local farmers and take pictures of their life sized tractors, then build scaled down versions and drive them in parades with his granddaughters. In the last few years he enjoyed helping the local farmers during harvest time.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ben and Lula, and Mildred Brooks.
Rodney is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judith "Judy" Butler, daughters, Karen (Jeff) Tappan and Julie (Michael) McDaniel, 2 granddaughters, 1 great grandson, and a host of extended family.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 18, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Parker Price Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will follow; starting at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Bethel Community Church and Silver Lake Fire Department and sent in care of Parker Price Funeral Home.
