Robert Dean "Bob" Watkins

Robert Dean "Bob" Watkins, 88, of Silver Lake, passed away on February 15, 2022 at Midland Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born on September 14, 1933 to Earl and Stella (Clemons) Watkins in Drumright, Oklahoma. He graduated from Burrton High School. He played on his high school's football and basketball team, lettering in each.

He attended Fort Hays State University. He lived in a dorm room with all of the football player and his buddies. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. He was in basic training in Atlanta then was stationed in Germany for 18 months. Bob trained as a mechanic working on big engines. He also worked as a mechanic for Consolidated Rebuilders before and after the Army. He was a beekeeper and produced honey, all while raising turkeys, cattle for a season, and guineas. He loved nature and being outside and also built his own pond on his land. Bob enjoyed growing moon flowers and cactus.

Bob married Thelma Elaine Barnes in Hutchinson, Kansas, together they had three children. They later divorced but remained friends.

Bob worked for KP&L for 27 years as a control room operator before retiring.

In his younger years, he enjoyed playing rec baseball on the Burrton Town baseball team. He moved from Burrton to Haven, Kansas and later moved to Mayetta, Kansas. Bob finally made his home in Silver Lake with his dog, Snip, down the road from his daughter Bonnie.

Robert is survived by his children, Larry D. Watkins, Linda Watkins-Mulvihill, and Bonnie (Clinton) Wyatt; sister, Betty Becker; grandchildren, Zachary Wichman, Kelli Wichman,and Shawn Watkins; and great granddaughter Jayla Benton.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents; sister, June Baker; and son-in-law, Bryon Mulvihill.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2022, 9:30 am to 11:00 am at Parker-Price Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am.

Graveside Service will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care and sent in care of Parker Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave. Topeka, KS 66608.
