Robert W Massey Sr., 81, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday June 17, 2014.
Robert was born April 15, 1933 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of William and Alice Massey. He attended Indian Creek Elementary school and Seaman High School. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1952 to 1955.
On August 19, 1953 he married Patty Ruth Arganbright at Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church, where he was a church member until his passing.
After serving in the Army, he worked for Mayflower Van Lines where he was a driver for 11 years. He later worked as a mechanic for Lewis Toyota.
He also worked for Noller Ford as shop foreman for many years, before eventually retiring in 1998 from Gary Hardy Dodge where he was also shop foreman.
He is survived by his cherished wife of 60 years Patty Ruth Massey, one son Robert W. Massey Jr. of Topeka, KS, one daughter Pandra Ann Wellman of Meriden , KS, two brothers, Fred Massey, and Herb Massey, both of Topeka, KS, two sisters, Evelyn Burgess of Scranton, KS, and Alice McMaster of Topeka, KS, six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one great- great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mildred Massey and Patty Smith both of Topeka, one half brother James Sharp of Topeka, and three great grandsons.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2014, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka.
Interment will follow at Rochester Cemetery, Topeka.
Mr. Massey will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2014, at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
