Robert H. "Bob" Stapel, 89, of Topeka, passed away on October 15, 2021 at Presbyterian Manor in Topeka.
Bob was born on January 20, 1932 to Claude and Lucretia (Dauber) Stapel in Topeka, KS.
Bob graduated from Hoyt High School in 1950. After graduation he was drafted into the United States Army in 1952, where he honorably served for 8 years. During his time he earned the Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged as a First Sergeant.
Bob worked as a Mechanic/Welder for DuPont for over 36 years. He was also a part time farmer.
On February 10, 1952, Bob married the love of his life, Twila June Kinkade in Hoyt, Kansas. Together they had 3 children.
Bob was a member of the Meriden United Methodist Church. He enjoyed restoring antique trucks, furniture, and machinery and loved welding artistic pieces for his family. His family was the center of his life along with his cat Chester.
He is survived by his children, Rita (Gino Jones) Chapman, Rhonda (William) Sand, and Kyle Stapel; Grandchildren, Lindsey (Kevin) Sharp, Douglas (Ramona) Sand, and Kyle (Jessica) Stapel, II; Great Grandchildren, Ryan and Sawyer Sharp.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Twila June Stapel and both of his parents.
Graveside service with military honors will be Thursday, October 21, 2021, 11:00 am at the Meriden Cemetery in Meriden, Kansas
