Robert Lee Hummer, 62, of Topeka, passed away Friday, February 19, 2010 at Midland Hospice House.
He was born September 11, 1947 in Harveyville, KS, the son of Harvey and Norma "Imogene" (Sage) Hummer. He grew up in Auburn, Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era.
He was worked in heavy construction in Kansas, Oklahoma, California and Florida until health problems forced him into retirement in 2000. He was involved in the construction of the Homestead Florida Race Track and worked for Peter Keiwet Construction and Gilbert Southern Construction Company. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous in Kansas and Florida and was a member of the Ozawkie Kansas American Legion.
Robert married Star Musa in 1982. She survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Holly Bankson and her husband, Brian of Redding, CA; two grandchildren, Madilyn and Owen Bankson; his mother, Norma "Imogene" Hummer of Topeka; three aunts, Ada King, Karen Boren and Lucile Halstead all of Topeka; numerous cousins and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Hummer was cremated. Memorial services are pending at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment of cremated remains with military honors will be at Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, KS.
