Robert “Bob” W. Hayes, 71, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at a Topeka hospital.
Robert was born on May 21,1949 in Beloit, KS to Wayne W. and Charlotte (Jones) Hayes. Robert graduated from Beloit High School in 1967. He joined the U.S. Air Force upon graduation from high school and bravely served in the Vietnam war. Robert then earned his master’s degree in psychology from Emporia State University and spent his professional career serving veterans. He was proud to have been a part of establishing PTSD units at VA hospitals and positively impacting veterans nationwide. Throughout his adult life, Robert was committed to advocating for those impacted by HAE, a rare disease.
Robert was enthusiastic about his hobbies. He was devoted to building model cars and reveled in teaching the craft to others. He had a fondness for folk music and loved gardening and cooking for his family. Robert was known for his passionate spirit, his silly sense of humor, and his love for his many dogs and his family.
Robert is survived by four sons, Scott Hayes of Topeka, Jason (Kelly) Hayes of Centennial, Colorado, Tim Hayes of Lubbock, Texas and Gabriel Hayes; a sister, Darlene (Scott Abrams) Fischli of Silver Lake, and seven much-loved grandchildren.
