OBITUARY: Robert D. Mace
Robert D. Mace, 62, a lifelong resident of Topeka, KS, died Sat., Sept. 30, 2006, at his home. Bob was born in Topeka on Jan. 11, 1944, the son of Robert S. and Kathleen (Critchlow) Mace.
He graduated from Seaman High School in 1962. Robert graduated from Oklahoma Farrier School and worked for many years as a blacksmith. Robert was a veteran of the Vietnam War; serving in the Army and National Guard.
He began work in the Topeka Fire Department in 1974, where he was trained as a paramedic for Rescue #1. He received his medical training at KU Medical Center. Bob retired from the fire department as a captain in 2003. He was a member of the International Association of Firefighters, Local #83.
Robert was a volunteer in many areas of Topeka. He served for fifteen years on the Shawnee County Sheriff Reserves. Bob was a member of Oakland United Methodist Church.
He was united in marriage to Barbara Beach on Dec. 26, 1977, at Topeka.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert S. Mace. Survivors include his mother, Kathleen Mace, Topeka; his sister, Karla Estes, Topeka; his wife, Barbara and their children, Megan Noel Mace, Prairie Village, KS; and Kevin Mace, Topeka.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wed., Oct. 4, 2006, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence, Topeka. Interment will be in Rochester Cemetery. Bob will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
