Robert "Bob" J. Inman

Robert “Bob” James Inman, age 84, of Berryton, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at his home in Berryton. Bob was born April 8, 1935 in Fresno, California, the son of Elmer and Bernice (Grondona) Carrier. He graduated from Burlingame High School in 1953. He later attended the University of Oklahoma and Washburn University and served in the U.S. Army. He married Paula L. Kieffer April 11, 1965 in Tecumseh, KS. She preceded Bob in death on October 13, 2019. Bob worked for the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office where he served as undersheriff under Jim Chaffee and Ed Ritchie, retiring as major. He was the first major appointed to the department. Upon retirement, Bob worked three years with Douglas County Sheriff’s Department in lake patrol. He was also Sergeant at Arms for the Kansas State Legislature for 11 years. Bob was a member of Topeka Masonic Lodge and Topeka Arab Temple for 40 years. Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, rock hunting, metal detecting and was skilled at lapidary and metal work. He enjoyed shooting pool, bowling, competitive shooting, archery, darts and hosting fish fries.

He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Marion Kieffer. He is survived by two sons, Allan Inman of Overbrook and Rod (Jennifer) Inman of Peculiar, Missouri; a daughter, Debbie (David) Parks of Mayetta; a brother-in law, Gale Kieffer of Topeka; a sister-in-law, Janice Kieffer of Tecumseh; seven grandchildren, James (Christine), Andrew (Taylor), Miles, Hannah, Cassidy, Haileigh, Tyson and three great grandchildren, Owen, Hunter and Cora.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at the Berryton United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour before services from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. and after the services at the church.
