Richard Lynn Teaford

Richard Lynn Teaford, 89, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018, at his home in Valley Falls, surrounded by his family. Richard was born December 15, 1928, in Norton, KS, the son of Perry and Jessie (Eyster) Teaford (deceased).

Richard was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Ozawkie High School. He was a member of the Coal Creek United Methodist Church and the retired Officers Association.

Richard married Maryetta Herring Teaford in Ozawkie, KS, in 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy as a captain and served as the commanding officer of the Naval Training Center in Topeka, KS. He is a veteran of the Korean War. He graduated from Kansas University with a Civil Engineering degree and worked for the State of Kansas, Marion County, and Jefferson County. While working for the state he took aerial photographs for the Interstate Highway Project.

Richard is survived by his wife, Maryetta, and five boys: Rick (Diane) Teaford, Shawnee, KS, Mike (Jackie) Teaford, Topeka, KS, Pat (Michelle) Teaford, Mayetta, KS, Kris (Pam) Teaford, Boyce, VA, and Mark (Rhonda) Teaford, Valley Falls, KS; his brother Sid Teaford, Annadale, VA; 19 grandchildren: Henry, Phillip, Jacob, Ashley, Heather, Bryce, Sarah, Dallas, Mande, Christopher, Christian, Daulton, Abbigale, Samantha, Jennifer, Katie, Robin, Brandon and Breanna; and ten great-grandchildren: Gunner, Blaze, Chance, Brooke, Colton, Dakota, Lilly, Landen, Logan, and Izayah.

Richard will be cremated and private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jefferson County Home Health Care, 1212 Walnut, Oskaloosa, KS 66606 or the Alzheimer's Association, 3625 SW 29th Street, Suite 102, Topeka, KS 66614.
