Richard D. "Frenchie" LaCrone, 92, of Topeka passed away on March 2, 2024. He was born on October 23, 1931 in Topeka the son of Roy and Elizabeth Allison LaCrone. He grew up in the Oakland neighborhood of Topeka, and graduated from Topeka High School in 1950. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the Destroyer Tender, USS Frontier. He was a fireman for the city of Topeka for 31 years before retiring. He enjoyed working on cars, helping anyone who needed a helping hand, enjoyed collecting guns, hunting and fishing. Dick was a very early instructor in hunter safety and was one of the first instructors to teach it when it became a statewide required course for obtaining a hunting license. He was a member of the NRA, St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Oakland and later Calvary Lutheran Church and member of the American Legion at Perry. He loved his dogs and still had a dachshund at home at the time of his passing.
He was married to Florence Grabowski in 1956. Florence passed away in August of 2009.
Survivors include his children, Philip W. LaCrone and wife Sue of Topeka, Renelda J. Connell and Chuck of Topeka, Jeffrey D. LaCrone and wife Alda of Topeka and Jim D. LaCrone and wife Joann of Hoyt; grandchildren, Micah, T.J., Jessica, Amber, Wesley, Rachel, Macie, Adam and Amanda; 21 great grandchildren also survive.
Others preceding him in death along with Florence are his daughter, Ruelle LaCrone in 1999, his brother Wesley LaCrone and a sister, Beverly Jean Locke.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Calvary Lutheran Church. Graveside services will follow at Westlawn Memorial Gardens.
