OBITUARY: Richard Lee (Dick) Woodward
Richard Lee (Dick) Woodward, 71, Topeka, passed away on Thurs., March 13, 2008, at his residence surrounded by family. He had lung cancer. He was born March 3, 1937, in Topeka, the son of Jesse A. and Edith M. Woodward. Dick graduated from Highland Park High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps two years, 1956-1958. Dick worked with his dad in construction, J.A. Woodward Construction, for several years after his military service. He then became a distributor for Fairmont Foods, later working at Goodyear Tire and Rubber. In 1979, he started his own business WOW Wash on Wheels, Inc. In 2002, Dick and his wife, Twila, sold the business and retired. They lived at Lake Wabaunsee full time. In Sept., 2007, they moved back to Topeka because of his health.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Twila L. Woodward; a son: Richard L. (Rick) Woodward and wife, Patty, of Topeka; a daughter: Kristyne L. Burton and husband, William (Bill) of Haven; grandchildren: Alex, Andy and Amanda Woodward; Andre' and wife, Carrie; Myles, and Jules Pierpont; Ryan, Adam and Amy Burton; a great-grandson: Wyatt M. Pierpont; sister-in-law: Pat Woodward of Meriden; 3 brothers-in-law; 3 sisters-in-law; an aunt; cousins, nieces, nephews; and dear friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Sat., March 22, 2008, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. A U.S. Marine Corps Detail will conduct military honors at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Dick will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Fri., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
