Richard L. Bonjour, 85, of Topeka, passed away Friday, January 12th, 2018 at Manor Care Health Services.
He was born September 23rd, 1932; the son of Goodlet and Anna (Fairbanks) Bonjour.
Richard attended Centralia Rural High School and graduated in 1950. After high school, Richard attended Kansas State University on a 4-H Rhodes scholarship. He then entered into the workforce, working at Ripley's Dry Cleaners for a short while and then advancing his career as an X-Ray Technician at the Topeka State Hospital, where he met his late wife Adelia. Richard also worked for the Salvation Army performing maintenance tasks, he took a job as a Building Manager at the Liberty Building, he was a CNA at the United Methodist Nursing Home, and prior to his final retirement he performed maintenance tasks for Gage Park Baptist Church.
Richard attended Town and Country Christian Church and was an active member. He participated in Senior Saints Luncheons on the third Wednesday of the month and very much enjoyed participating in Bible Study. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed spending quality time with his wife Adelia on camping and boating trips. Additionally, Richard very much enjoyed spending time watching football and basketball games. Richard loved hosting family to homemade ice cream, following dinner with friends and family at Cook's American Grill on Friday nights.
Richard married Adelia Maxine Pontius on August 15th, 1959 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on March 23rd, 1995. Richard later married Bonnie Zook on November 22nd, 1999; they were later divorced.
Richard is survived by his step-son James (Sharon) Suwalski; three step-grandchildren, Dana (Anthony) Sobottka, John Suwalski, and Gary (Sue) Suwalski; three great step-grandchildren, Chad and wife Brittany, Edward, and Devin; and a Sister, Carolyn Davison.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Goodlet and Anna (Fairbanks) Bonjour; and three sisters, Judy DeVere, Rosie Cobb, and Laura Terry.
At his request, cremation will take place and a Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday January 20th, 2018 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS. Private inurnment will take place at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka, KS.
