Richard "Apple" E. Rees

Richard E. “Apple” Rees, age 83, of Grantville, KS passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021 at his home in Grantville.  Dick was born January 15, 1938 in Topeka the son of Norris and Lucile (Jones) Rees.  Dick married Dixie Fannin October 22, 1961.  She preceded him in death November 19, 2015.  Dick was in the Coast Guard and Army Reserve.  He worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber for over 39 years, retiring in 1998.  Dick and Dixie were owners and operators of Pine-Apple Tree Farm in Grantville.  He was a member of the Grantville United Methodist Church, the Goodyear Union #307 and the KLA and a life member of the Kansas Christmas Tree Growers Association.  He enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Alley Cats Bowling League for over 30 years.

Dick was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Rees December 31, 2020.  Dick is survived by a son, Michael (Ronna) Rees; a daughter, Melissa (Keith) Ditch; a sister, Jean Cassell; four grandchildren, Matthew Ditch, Jennifer Ditch, Eric Ditch and Scott (Kirstie) Rees; seven great grandchildren, Caleb Ditch, Andrea Rhoads, Alaina Rhoads, Emily Gray, Rylee Steele, Blayke Ann Rees and Sailor Appelhanz.

Funeral services will be Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home.  The family requests everyone dress casually.  He will lie in state Wednesday from noon – 8:00 p.m. with visitation from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home.  Interment will be at the Grantville Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson County Hospice or Grantville United Methodist Church and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.  davidsonfuneral.com
