Richard A. Parrett, 87, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday December 16, 2009 surrounded by his family.
He was born February 16, 1922 in Whiting, KS where he was raised and graduated high school. He was the son of William and Ethel (Lawrence) Parrett. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II. He was employed by the Forbes Postal Supply Depot for 34 years, retiring August 29, 1980. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 1 and Kiwanis Club of Tecumseh, KS.
Richard married Freda Markley on October 13, 1946 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on October 19, 2009 after 63 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, William, Jr., Scott, Lawrence, and Lyle. He is survived by his children, Mark Parrett, Topeka, Jana Parrett, Overland Park, KS, and Ann Parrett Anderson (Guy), Topeka; granddaughters, Olivia, Hannah, and Melissa Anderson; his sister, Mary Lou McComb, Muscatine, IA.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, Whiting, KS. Mr. Parrett will lie in state after 3 p.m., Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N.
