In Loving Memory of Rhaecilli “Jean” Reed

Jean passed away peacefully at her home in Topeka, Kansas, on May 6, 2024, with her loving husband, Carl, and her children by her side. Jean, fondly called “Jeanie” was Carl’s treasure and wife of 41 years. She was lent to us from God and she has returned home to the Lord.

Jean was born in Nampa, Idaho. She was the oldest of 7 children. She attended Ozawkie Public Schools in Ozawkie, Kansas. She loved to learn and was an excellent student. She enjoyed baton twirling and talked frequently of her role as a drum majorette for her high school.

In 1956, she married Larry McCall, of Ozawkie, Kansas. They resided in the Topeka, Kansas area, and eventually settled in the Ozawkie/Oskaloosa, Kansas area, where they raised 6 wonderful children.

In 1982, Jean met and married the love of her life, Carl Reed. Together, they made a lovely home and completed raising their combined families, in Topeka, Kansas.

Jean loved being a wife, mother, sister, daughter, daughter, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She took pride in her roles as homemaker, seamstress, gardener, chef, home teacher, mentor, fan club, chauffeur, and friend.

After her children were raised, she proceeded to work in her field of love, sewing. She made and created beautiful, intricate, designer showcase custom draperies, fashion clothing, and formal wear. She loved to make her own clothing and clothing for her children and grandchildren. She loved sharing her love of sewing and her seamstress talents with others.

Jean loved attending her children’s school functions, church functions, and sporting events. She was a fan of all her children and grandchildren’s sporting, college, and career successes. Jean was an avid fan of all KU sports and loved KC Royals baseball. Her other passions included travelling near and abroad, attending airshows, playing the organ, flower gardening, exquisite cooking, and reading.

She was a long-time member of the Unity Church of Topeka where she took pride in volunteering with her dear friends whenever possible. She never met a stranger. She was warm and friendly and always tried to find the good in all people.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, sister, Donna, brother, Herschel, grandson, Christopher, and great-grand daughter, Shea. She is survived by two sisters, and two brothers and a host of other dear relatives.

She will be greatly missed by her children: Tim (Debbie), Terry (Astrid), Serena (Rick), Wanda, Ted, and Teresa, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many other beloved relatives and friends.

Family are planning a celebration of life service for Jean, summer 2024. Memorial contributions can be made to Midland Care Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606 or Unity Church of Christianity, P.O. Box 750658, Topeka, KS 66675.
