OBITUARY: Rex Stapel
Rex Stapel, 72, Meriden, died Thurs., Nov. 4, 2010, at a Topeka elevator after unloading his last load of soybeans. He was born Jan. 2, 1938, to Raymond and Lola (Dauber) Stapel. He attended school in Meriden and always lived and farmed west of Meriden. Survived by Mary Lux, they were divorced, and had 4 children: Rick (Janet), Derek , Scott (Maria), and Dawn Davis (Tony). Rex married Susan Lee Lord on June 7, 1978, at their Meriden home. They have one son, Matthew Noel. He is also survived by 7 granddaughters, 4 grandsons, 5 great-grandsons, a great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews. Rex worked for the Kansas State Grain Inspection and retired March 11, 1994, from the Kansas State Board of Agriculture, after 37 years with the State of Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Stithem; and grandson, Kellum. Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM, Mon., Nov. 8, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Memorials to the humane society of the donor's choice.
