Rex Duane Taylor, 88, Topeka, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2013 at Aldersgate Village. He was born on November 1, 1924 in Topeka, Kansas to Jack and Hazel (Johnson) Taylor.
A lifelong resident of Topeka, he graduated from Topeka High School in 1942. He then attended University of Chicago to learn Morse code. Rex served in the US Navy during WWII and fought in the South Pacific at the Palau Islands. He was a postal clerk in Topeka, where he retired in 1983. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 400.
After the war, he met and married Olive M. Schirmer on August 8, 1946. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Sherryl (David) Mohler, a son, Rick (Ramona) Taylor, four grandchildren, Patrick (Sarah) Hodgson, Tim Hodgson, Sean (Holly) Taylor and Brian Taylor, two great grandchildren, Gavin and Gwen Hodgson and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Max Taylor.
Funeral services will at 11 am on Wednesday, March 20 at the Mount Hope Mausoleum Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
