Reverend Robert "Bob" Michael Sutton, 77, of Topeka, passed away on January 18, 2022 at Midland Hospice Care.
He was born on December 19, 1944 to Kenneth and Katherine (Hawk) Sutton in Topeka, KS.
Bob graduated from Highland Park High School in 1963. He lettered in basketball, track, and football for all four years. He then attended Washburn University before joining the military. He served in the United States Army for 7 years during the Vietnam War before he was honorably discharged.
Bob started work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a Lineman. During his career he held multiple positions including Training Supervisor and later earning the title of Safety Supervisor for Kansas. He retired after 29 years of employment.
After retirement he did multiple jobs like installing garage doors, insurance, and remodeling houses before entering into ministry for the United Methodist Church. He went to Mozambique, Africa as a missionary in 2000 and served for 3 years. On returning to the United States, he served in churches in Northwest Missouri and Eastern Kansas. Bob also served as a Chaplain at Aldersgate Village in Topeka.
On September 3, 1966, Bob married Camille Sutton (Ging) in Topeka at Highland Park United Methodist Church.
Bob is survived by loving wife, Camille; children, Andy Sutton and Jared (Emily) Rudy; brother, William "Bill" (Dena) M. Sutton; grandchildren, Michael Sutton, Allison (Colby) Speck, Brooklyn Rudy, Carli Jo Sutton, and Evelyn Rudy; great grandchild, Jaighme Sutton, Madison Speck, Ellie Rae Speck, Ryleigh Sutton, and Riggs Speck; brother-in-law, Bill Elkins Sr.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents; son, James Kenneth Sutton; and sister, Marilyn K. Elkins.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 23, 2022, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Meriden United Methodist Church in Meriden, Kansas
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022, 11:00 am at the Meriden United Methodist Church.
Cremation will follow and inurnment will take place at a later date at West Lawn Memorial Garden.
Memorials are suggested to the 'UMCOR United Methodist Committee on Relief' or to the 'Foundation 4 Orphans' and sent in care to, 90 Julian Drive, Hamden, Connecticut 06518, United States.
