Reverend Donald W. Rogers, 88, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at his home.
He was born November 19, 1922 in Springfield, MA, the son of Robert N. and Norma G. (Spaulding) Rogers.
He received a Master's Degree in Music from Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ and a Master of Divinity Degree from McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago, IL.
Rev. Rogers served as Pastor for Oakland Presbyterian Church for 20 years, retiring in May of 1988. He instituted the Chaplaincy Program with the Topeka Police Department and served as a Chaplain for 20 years. He also sang professionally on the radio, in the church, and upon request.
He married Phyllis K. Crawford on August 21, 1954 in Chicago. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Donna K. Casey and Cheryl E. Rogers both of Topeka; two granddaughters, Kirsten R. Casey and Alyssa D. Casey; a great-granddaughter, Ava K. Starforth; and a sister, Louise Bushey, Springfield, MA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clayton, George, and Derwood and a sister, Phyllis Lovell.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Oakland Presbyterian Church, 2810 NE Thomas, Topeka, KS 66616. Interment will follow at Topeka Cemetery. Reverend Rogers will lie in state after 3 p.m., Friday at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Oakland Presbyterian Church.
