Raymond Keith Freed
Raymond Keith Freed, 85, Silver Lake, died Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. He was born August 2, 1931, at Scandia, the son of Johnny Ralph and Lucy "Mildred" (Veach) Freed.
Raymond graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1949. He was a member and Past Master of Lake Lodge # 50, AF & AM. He was an active member of the Silver Lake Scholarship Foundation, Silver Lake Senior Citizens, and Meals on Wheels. He had owned and operated Freed Texaco Station and Freed Mobil Station; and for 20 years he was a rural mail carrier working out of the Silver Lake Post Office. He was a former member of the Silver Lake I.O.O.F. Lodge, Silver Lake Lions Club, and Moose Lodge # 555. He was a volunteer fireman for the Silver Lake area.
Raymond was married to Roberta Jean Blankenship on September 12, 1950, in Topeka. She survives. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard Freed; and two sisters, Georgene Poteet and Marjorie Purvis.
Surviving are his wife: Roberta J. Freed of the home; three children: Cheryl May (Ronald) of Silver Lake, Rhonda Majka (Joseph, Jr.) of Leavenworth, and Randy Freed (Kelly) of Silver Lake; a sister: Phyllis Rushing of Sutter Creek, CA; and 34 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM., Monday, June 19, 2017, at First Baptist Church of Silver Lake, 3439 NW Hoch Road. Lake Lodge # 50, A.F. & A.M. will conduct graveside honors at Silver Lake Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, Monday, at the church.
