Raymond L. “Bud” Carney, 87, of Topeka, KS, died peacefully at his home on April 20, 2024. Bud was born on January 14, 1937 to Loyce (Harding) Carney and Raymond G. Carney. He studied engineering before setting out on a career of more than 50 years in construction. He was a contractor in Missouri early in his career, followed by stints in Wichita KS, and Great Bend KS, before moving to Topeka and ultimately opening his own business. He received many awards for his work building commercial metal buildings, and retired as owner of Carney Construction Company and Bud's Mini Storage after more than 30 years in the Topeka area. After retiring he resided in Hot Springs Village AR for 16 years before recently returning to Topeka.
Bud married Janet (Rife) Carney in 1957, and they had three children together, Lisa (Galen) Traphagan, Terry (Lisa) Carney and Steve (Shannon) Carney before her passing on February 16, 2000. Bud was lucky enough to find love again with his long time life partner Darla Craig. He is survived by Lisa, Terry, Steve and Darla, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Caroll in October 2020.
Bud was an avid golfer and spent many happy hours on the course with friends and family. He was also a long time member of the Shriners organization, most recently in Hot Springs Village, AR, and participated in numerous fundraising events on their behalf.
In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to may make a contribution in Bud's honor, in care of Parker Price Funeral Home, to one of his favorite charities: Shriner's Children's Hospital; St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Tunnel to Tower.
A private graveside service will be held for the family prior to a Celebration of Life in Bud's honor on May 31st, 2024 at the Parker Price Reception Center, 1940 NW Central Ave., Topeka KS, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
