Raymond Bailey
Raymond Bailey, 87, Topeka, died Sunday, April 5, 2015, at Aldersgate Village. He was born July 9, 1927, at Silver Lake, the son of Ollie and Ellen (Day) Bailey.
Raymond graduated from Silver Lake High School. He served in the U.S. Army Military Police from 1946 to 1948 in Korea. Raymond was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. until April 1, 1953.
On April 1, 1953, he began his career with the Topeka Fire Department, where he held various positions. He was training officer from 1970 until he left in 1977. He took a position with the State Fire Marshal June 18, 1977, in the Health Care Section of the Fire Prevention Division, which he held until his retirement on March 1, 1991.
Raymond was a member of Northland Christian Church where he had served as an Elder. He was a member of and helped build the Silver Lake Senior Citizens' Center.
He was married to Marie Ann Jensen on April 30, 1949, at Mayetta. She survives.
Also surviving are a son: Daryl Ray Bailey (Sheri) of Florida; a daughter: Carolyn Bailey; a brother: Ollie Bailey, Jr. (Millie); and three grandchildren: William Heptig (Stephanie), Blair Heptig, and Paul Bailey (Michelle); and three great-grandchildren: Joshua, Jacob, and Julia Bailey.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Heptig.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 13, 2015, at Northland Christian Church, 3102 NW Topeka Avenue. Interment of cremains will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Grove, Shawnee County, Kansas. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
