Rafail "Ralph" Vega
Rafail "Ralph" Vega, 70, Topeka, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at his home. He was born July 26, 1933, in East Chicago, Ind., to Salvador and Lillian Martinez Vega. Mr. Vega was a decorated member of the Army and Navy from 1950 to 1957. He was a driver with the Topeka City Bus Service for five years. He retired from Sears in 1984 after 21 years of service. He was employed as a security officer at Harrah's Prairie Band Casino at the time of his death. He married Patricia A. Zeller-Lundin on April 5, 2003, in Oskaloosa. She survives at the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Ruth Vega, Topeka; two sons, Gilbert Vega, Mayetta, and Paul Vega, Topeka; four stepchildren, Kathy Griffin, Oskaloosa, Rick Lundin, Effingham, Vince Lundin, Mayetta, and Tammy Varner, Holton; three brothers, John Vega, Hammond, Ind., Salvador Vega and his wife, Delores, Topeka, and Alfonso Vega, Columbus, Ill.; a sister, Sally Garcia, Chicago; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; 11 ste pgrandchildren; and a stepgreat-granddaughter. Mr. Vega was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Hernandez, in 1999. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka. Burial with military honors conducted by WE-TA-SE Post No. 410 of the American Legion will be in Mayetta Cemetery at Mayetta. Mr. Vega will lie in state after noon Sunday at the funeral chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Contributions to the Ralph Vega Memorial Fund to be designated later, may be sent in care of Capitol City Bank, 2040 N.W.
