Ralph J. Hiett of Topeka passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021. He was 84 years old. Ralph was born to Ralph Sr. and Florence Fox Hiett on June 3, 1936 in Foxtown, Kansas. Ralph's father Ralph Sr. was a miner and auto mechanic; his mother Florence was a school teacher. Foxtown was founded by Ralph's Maternal Grandparents Joseph and Myrtle Fox.

Ralph's ancestor John Hiett came to America in 1699 from England. Ralph's Great Grandparents James and Sarah Hiett settled in Crawford County near Girard Kansas in 1872. They were farmers and originally came from West Virginia. Ralph's Grandparents Arthur and Mattie Hiett lived in Arma, Kansas where they and owned and operated a boarding house while Arthur was a contractor and a school teacher.

Ralph left Arma, Kansas and became a tool and dye maker at Bowing Aircraft. He subsequently came to Topeka in 1957 with the Governor George Docking Administration, and later became a deputy sheriff and deputy marshal. In 1963, Ralph established Hiett Bail Bonds, which he owned and operated for forty years. He also owned Hiett Private Detective Agency, a nightclub, and a liquor store (among other properties).

Ralph married Carol Kitzman in 1976. Carol preceded him in death in 2012. Mr. Hiett is survived by numerous relatives in Hampshire County West Virginia.
Ralph was a member of The Church of Christ. He was past President of the Professional Bail Agents of the United States and held membership in the AF & AM, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and National Rifle Association. Ralph was coordinator for The Citizens for Voter Rights, an organization devoted to accountability and the election of Shawnee County District Judges and State Supreme Court Judges.

Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2021 at Parker Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, Kansas.

Entombment will be at Mt. Hope Mausoleum alongside his beloved Carol. Due to Covid-19 concerns and restrictions, there will not be a formal public service. There may be a Celebration of his Life at a later date.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the CAT Association of Topeka, 1719 Gage, Topeka, Kansas.
