Ralph T. Carter, 84, passed away at his home in Topeka, Saturday, April 8. 2006. Ralph was born in the Shorey area of North Topeka, November 19, 1921, the son of Joseph and Sigrid Johnson- Carter. He grew up in North Topeka and attended school in the Seaman School District. Ralph married Echo Ann Kelly on December 24, 1941 in Topeka. The couple later made their home on a farm near Valley Falls. Ralph served in the Army during WWII, and his tour of duty was in the Pacific and Aleutian Islands. After the service, Ralph was a pointer, maintenance foreman for the State of Kansas, farmer and cattleman. Ralph belonged to Painters Local # 96 in Topeka. He loved young children, and raising Pekinese dogs.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Echo Ann; children: Robert "Bob" (Sue Ann) Carter, Dona (Ron) Brown, Candace (Tom) Frenn, and Ralph Edwin "Ed" (Michele) Carter. Other survivors include 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers: Donald Carter and Charles R. Carter, 2 sisters: Margie Dillon and Genevieve Woodbury, and 2 pet dogs, Mary and Molly. Ralph was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 1 brother.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., today at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, with burial to follow at Auburn Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be given to American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead, Topeka, KS 66604 or Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
