Phillip Edward Beckwith
Phillip Edward Beckwith, 98, Topeka, died Saturday, December 27, 2014, at Midland Hospice House. He was born July 29, 1916, at Delta, Colorado, the son of Elon and Gertrude (Simpson) Beckwith.
Phil was reared and educated at Delta, Colorado. He served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945. After his military service he moved to Topeka. He was a dock foreman at Seymour Foods at the time of his retirement in 1978.
He was a member of Topeka North Post #400 of the American Legion. He was an avid fisherman, and pitch and cribbage player.
Phil was married to Anna Marie Chaney on July 3, 1945, in Holton. She preceded him in death on November 14, 1985. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter: Agnes Marie Beckwith, on December 12, 1967; a grandson: Trenton Phillip Beckwith, on April 12, 1987; and a brother: Jack Beckwith.
Surviving are two sons: Glenn Beckwith (Sue Harding) of Topeka, and Lynn Beckwith (Jane) of Ozawkie; and two brothers: Kenneth Beckwith (Mindy) of Las Vegas, NV, and Danny Beckwith (Pat) of Omaha, NE; three grandchildren: Melanie Parker (Tully) of Virginia, Travis Beckwith (Heather) of Pennsylvania, and Deanna Gier (Tyrel) of Valley Falls; and six great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Travis, Hannah, Nicholas, Colton, and Katlyn.
A celebration of life will be held from 3:00 to 4:30 PM, Friday, January 2, 2015, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. Cremation will follow with interment of cremains in Holton Cemetery.
